MSc Thesis
The final stage of your Master is doing an MSc thesis project. You can do this internally with one of the research groups at the university, or externally with a company.Companies are very keen to attract our students, so there are plenty of opportunities for doing your MSc thesis externally. Companies where students have done MSc thesis projects in the past few years include
- companies specialising in cyber security, such as Riscure, Secura (formerly called Madison-Gurkha), Brightsight, Fox-IT, Radically Open Security, Northwave, Qbit, or KPN (e.g. KPN's REDteam);
- IT security divisions of more general consultancy firms, such as KPMG, Deloitte, Pwc, Accenture, and Ernst & Young;
- banks and other companies in the financial sector, incl. ING, SNS Bank, CCV, and UL Transaction Security.
- firms that produce security technologies, such as Compumatica, Irdeto, Bosch Rexroth, NXP, and Philips;
- software houses such as InfoSupport (see also here);
- public utility companies, such as TenneT, Enexis, and Alliander;
- research institutes such as SIDN labs in Arnhem (on internet security for .nl), SURFnet TNO, ENCS in the Hague (on security of critical infrastructure, esp. electricity grid), and Netherlands Forensics Institute (NFI)
- many organisations in the public sector, such as the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, Team High Tech Crime (THTC) of the Dutch police, or various ministries, e.g. the Ministry of Internal affairs.
These are also some of the companies where our students find a job after graduation.
Generally, it is also always a good idea to talk to possible supervisors well before you want to start with your thesis. More information and concrete proposals for MSc thesis projects can be found at the SEC page and the local page at the Radboud University.
